I had the total joy of bringing a long-time idea to life, originally envisioned by Jane from Birdcages & Dragonflies, alongside some of the most talented and passionate wedding creatives I know. The vision? An indoor, riverside-inspired ceremony with a strong focus on sustainability, hosted by Wedding Less Ordinary in the iconic industrial beauty that is The Boiler Shop in Newcastle.

From the very beginning, this shoot was all about mindful choices: reclaimed timbers, upcycled fabrics, homegrown greenery, and the kind of creativity that proves eco-friendly doesn’t mean compromising on style.

Dressed to Impress (the Planet)

We were lucky enough to showcase a stunning gown from the brand-new Love Rare Couture collection by the brilliant duo Jade and Rita at @‌rarebridalstudio. Think beautifully made bridalwear with soul crafted from sustainable materials, handmade to order in the North East, and entirely free from fast fashion or mass production. Their collection proves that ethics and elegance can go hand in hand down the aisle.

Details that Make a Difference

Every corner of this shoot was filled with thoughtful, sustainable touches, starting with the dreamy stationery from @‌lolostudiodesign. Lois crafted her range using recycled materials and even seed paper (yes, it can grow wildflowers). Beautiful, planet-friendly, and designed with such care, what more could you want?

Jane from Birdcages & Dragonflies brought her signature style to the tablescapes and decor, an effortless blend of rustic charm and eco-conscious elegance. Think vintage glassware, reclaimed wood, and ethical sourcing. Her approach to wedding styling tells a story through every item, nothing throwaway, everything with purpose.

Hair and Makeup

Claire of Claire Alexandra Hair and Makeup brought soft, romantic beauty to the shoot. Her effortless styling enhanced the mood of the day with natural tones and gentle textures that perfectly suited the setting.

Meadow Magic

The floral setup by Jasmine & Pear Flowers literally transformed the space. A wild meadow installation bursting with seasonal blooms brought colour, texture, and a sense of natural movement to the ceremony area. It felt like stepping into a whimsical garden in full bloom.

A mirrored aisle shimmered in the sunlight like a flowing river, adding a magical reflective quality to the space. Overhead, soft draping from Imaginarium Balloon Studio floated like clouds, completing the dreamy atmosphere.

The Sweetest Touch

Last (but absolutely never least), we have to talk about the cake. Jacs Cake Company created a show-stopping centrepiece that blurred the lines between art and dessert. Her work always adds a spark of personality and fun, and this one was no exception.

The Couple Who Brought It to Life

A huge shoutout to Mio & Sonny, who absolutely rocked their first modelling job as a couple. Their natural chemistry, warmth, and openness brought a beautiful energy to the shoot

Acknowledgments

A heartfelt thank you to Wedding Less Ordinary for hosting this beautiful collaboration, and to Tracy, the Celebrant for her warm, authentic presence during the shoot. A special mention to Jane from Birdcages & Dragonflies for the original creative idea. It was a privilege to bring her vision to life and to capture the magic of her unique, imaginative styling.

Why It Matters

At the heart of this shoot was a beautiful idea from Jane at Birdcages & Dragonflies to prove that sustainability and style can sit side by side in a wedding setting. Her vision sparked the collaboration and shaped every conscious, creative choice that followed.

As Dr. Sophia Green, Environmental Scientist, put it:“Weddings, like any other event, have a carbon footprint. But with conscious decisions, this footprint can be significantly reduced.”

It’s so encouraging to see more couples and creatives embracing that mindset. This shoot was proof that style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. In fact, when done well, they create something truly special.

To everyone who poured their hearts and talents into this, thank you for creating magic with meaning.
